As a Scandinavian myself I love the Nordic way of home styling. So many great brands (cheap and expensive alike - mix & match all the way!) to choose from.
No need to spend a fortune on all the expensive brands when we have H&M Home, Ellos and of course IKEA.
My home is not a dreamboat of awesome stuff, and it is in no way perfect like the many blogger homes you see online. It can't be, since I have to live in it and love it at the same time. And the tiny factor of having a small child in the home comes with a few limitations...
I don't see the point in having a home that only functions as a showroom. No thank you!
To give your home a quick and inexpensive Nordic twist, you can take a look at these steps below;
- Use sheep skin on chairs (or this fake one
- Pastel coloured pillows and throws for the sofa will be awesome (assuming they match your sofa).
- Wooden picture frames and light coloured posters on the wall.
- White
- Bed Linen in pastels or white, grey or beige colours.
- The colour "soft rose" is a huge hit with me at the moment. Use your favourite pastel colours whenever you can (ex. candle holders, napkins, lamp shades etc).

Dixon's collaboration with IKEA was known as "top secret" when it was announced during the Swedish brand's Democratic Design Day in June last year.
But Dixon elaborated on this at a press conference in Milan, saying he was building a modular furniture system with a high-quality base component.
Through various plug-ins, it could be adapted from a bed into a sofa or other item of furniture as the needs and finances of its users change.
"Rather than a bed that you buy for a short period of time, it's a sort of platform for living that can evolve into a sofa or into a workstation, according to plug-ins that you put on top," Dixon said.
"Very much like the iPhone, I'm hoping to encourage a whole ecosystem of apps that you stick on top of this basic platform of the bed."
To build this structure Dixon has teamed up with three design schools as well as unnamed companies.
"We've got a project with three universities — the Royal College, Parsons in New York and Japan – so there's 75 very fine minds working on it right now with actually much more superior ideas to the ones I came up with in the first place," he said.
"The objective is very much that IKEA take on the distribution and the manufacturing of this thing, and they're selling more of the platform because other people are creating an ecosystem around it. There is already a couple of companies on top of my own that are customising this object, so watch this space."
The finished product of Dixon and IKEA's collaboration will launch in August of 2017. Before that, they will be shown during Milan design week, which Dixon described as the "Glastonbury of design" for young people more interested in having experiences than buying products.
Interesting!

IKEA announced a collaboration with Danish design brand HAY today, and gave us a little sneak peak of what to expect. The collection will be called "YPPERLIG" and consist of around 70 products. Only downside is that it will not hit the stores before autumn 2017 - We have something to look forward to!

Just recently I came across Danish brand Liewood on Instagram, and instantly my heart skipped a few beats - To be honest it was love at first sight!
Liewood's main products are focused around bedding, bed bumpers and blankets for kids in wonderful graphic designs as well as soft pastel colors, all in 100% organic cotton. Luckily the bedding is also made for adults (size 140x200cm), so I will be able to buy myself some grey paper planes!
Obviously my baby-to-be will also be spoiled with a few of these items for the nursery.
Take a look at a few of their products below, or visit their website Liewood.

I'm what you would call addicted to bedding/bed linen and it shows in my linen cupboard! You can never have enough bed linen. In this post I have collected (mostly) Nordic/Scandinavian style greyscale bedding and links to purchasing.
Linen Bed sheets from H&M Home
I have been searching highs and lows for light grey bed linen in 100% linen, but they are hard to find unless you want to pay the big bucks. I managed to find this at H&M Home - the price is alright, but still quite a lot of money when you need two sets of linen. Price: $79.99,- / £49.99,- / DKK 599,-
I love Design Letters from Danish designer Arne Jacobsen. Clean cut - yet a little playful. Also available in kids' sizes. This one is for adults and the size is 140x200cm (Danish standard size). The price is DKK849,- (around €114,- / $127,-)
Nyponros Bed Linen From IKEA
I can't write a post about bedding without mentioning IKEA. Most of my own bedding is from there since they have A LOT of designs to choose from, the prices are super and the quality is extremely good. If you can't find any bed linen you like in IKEA you are the one to blame;-)
This particular set is also available in blue or yellow stripes. The prices varies from country to country.
Färg & Form Clouds Bed Linen
The Swedish brand Färg & Form has a whole textile collection with these cute clouds, mostly directed at children, but the bed linen also comes in adult sizes. If I ever have a baby I'm going to buy everything in this collection (poor kid). Size on adult bedding is 150x210cm
Ferm Living Vertigo Bed Linen
Ferm Living is a Danish design company who specialises in minimalistic and rustic interior. This bedding is 100% ecological cotton and is made in size 140x200cm.

Whether I like it or not, fall is just around the corner, and the need for lighting is rising! I stumbled across this light bulb when I was searching for cool bulbs online, and this is a must have!
"Diamond Lights" was designed by Swedish designer Eric Therner in 2009 (why haven't I heard of it before?!), and was nominated for the "Product of the Year" award at "Designtorget" (hip Swedish store) in 2010.
"DANISH DESIGN-AGENCY FRAMA ARE PRODUCING AND DISTRIBUTING DIAMOND LIGHTS FOR ERIC THERNER.
FRAMA SELL DIAMOND LIGHTS THROUGH HIGH-END DESIGN-RETAILERS TOGETHER WITH A NETWORK OF DISTRIBUTORS.
YOU WILL FIND DIAMOND LIGHTS AT SHOPS LIKE FRENCH CONCEPT STORE, COLETTE, MERCI-MERCI AND DUTCH CONCEPT-STORE DROOG."Frama Copenhagen (link)
The price for 1 light bulb is 250DKK (around $45), but you might be able to find something similar and cheaper elsewhere on the internet.

Vissevasse is a Danish web shop specializing in graphic design posters. The main theme of most of these posters is cities around the globe in various beautiful pastel colours. At the moment you'll find mostly Danish cities in the shop, but the designer is always working on new projects. You can even suggest new cities, and the designer will consider it for the next project. I know that the city of Stockholm is currently being developed.
The site is in Danish (for now), but they ship worldwide. Visit Vissevasse

HAY pillows are quite expensive designer pillows, but there IS a way to get a cheaper version, if you don't want to spend that much on a pillow. Let's face it, they will get dirty in no time anyway... Especially with kids and animals in the house.
We bought these HAY tea towels for a fairly decent price ($20-25), folded them in two (front and back side) and sew the sides together. Stuffed them with pillows in the right size and volia, we got a couple of great pillows!

This bed linen is currently only available in Danish and Swedish sizes (single 140x200cm and 150x210cm), but I had to post it anyway. The colours and design is awesome, and I need them all in my bedroom...
If you are curious about the brand, you can check out bed linen and everything else by Hay here: HAYSHOP (note that the prices are in Danish Kroner)
